Jan 1 - 2008

1) Ryan Mallett: Where is he headed?

I was thinking Arkansas would be a likely location considering the new coach in place and Petrino's offensive system and ability to help groom Brian Brohm. With the big Michigan 'Sophomore-to-be' a transfer candidate after the arrival of Rich Rodriguez and his spread offense in Ann Arbor. Some new buzz has Mallett potentially off to UCLA with Rick Neuheisel interested in former Wolverines Assistant Scott Loeffler as his OC. I think Spurrier at S Carolina would be another place of interest for Mallett.

2) Poor Chris Jessie

Just look at Mack Brown letting his step son get on the field against ASU. What a horrible situation. I have to admit, Jessie was one of about 5 UT staffers/players on the field of play at the time spilling over from the sideline.

3) Gators my 2008 Pre-Season #1.

So we haven't finished this season, but why not start the new year with a post of this ilk. Heisman God Tim Tebow adds USC transfer Emmanuel Moody to the offense next season to provide the first legitimate RB in the Gators backfield for some time (apart from Tebow himelf). The Gators already started a pile of freshman and sophomores this year so, look out...

3pointstance - 2007 in Review

1) NFL Quarterback depth

Never before has QB depth been tested in the NFL. With 3rd string QB's leading teams late in the season, even fourth on the chart in some cases, it is clear you can't expect to win without quality depth. Find a playoff bound team and you'll see QB consistency and the #1 QB at the helm. Of the playoff bound teams, only Washington is without their #1 QB. Take Brady and Manning away from their respective teams and there is no comparison. The Panthers and 49ers are onto their 4th starters for the year and it is no surprise to see them floundering.

2) Find Me a Coach

What a mess! Two of the biggest programs in the land launch convoluted coaching searches, punctuated by rumour, rejection and reality checks. Almost every name on the who's who of potential coaches was tapped from Miles to Ferentz to Grobe to Cowher to Kiffin. So which of these likely characters ends up in Fayetteville at the reigns of the Razorbacks - Bobby Petrino. In a great abandoning act Petrino bails on the Atlanta Falcons mid-season for $$$ and a return to the college game. UM of course goes for a dose of Wolverine heritage with - Rich Rodriguez???? The West Virginia coach (and alum) heads to Ann Arbor bringing the unfamiliar Spread offense to the Maize and Blue. Can't wait to see 6'7 Ryan Mallett run the spread.

3) Undefeated

Who would have thought that the NFL would bring an undefeated team and Division I wouldn't. Ok, so Hawaii enters the Sugar Bowl at 12-0, but this writer predicts a UGA win. So that would leave Brady, Belichick and co. as the only undefeated team in the land, the first to go 16-0 in history. I love the power of the NFL draft, just look at the two players the Patriots drafted this year - 2nd Rounder Wes Welker and 4th Rounder Randy Moss. Ok, so they came via trades for those picks, but what acquisitions. I bet the Raiders and the Dolphins were much better off for not having these guys and replacing them with rookies...
