1 MAR - 2008
Asante Samuel got his big bucks as expected with the Eagles. That gives the EAgles 3 Pro Bowl CB on the roster, so look for Lito Shepperd to be moving on. Miami had a bug day, filling up the QB spot with Josh McCown, adding talented young DT Randy Starks, veteran DT Jason Ferguson, Guard Justin Smiley, LB Reggie Torbor and Ernest Wilford the WR from Jacksonville. The Jags made moves of their own, consolidating the trade for Troy Williamson, signing FA WR Jerry Porter and adding QB Cleo Lemon to be David Garrard's backup. The Raiders had one of the best pickups getting safety Gibril Wilson from the Giants. Alan Faneca is sure to make some big bucks when he signs, with the Bucs making Jeff Faine a wealthy man as the highest paid centre in the NFL. The Vikings improved their secondary signing Madieu Williams from Cincy. DeShaun Foster will ensure RB depth for the 49ers after being released by the Panthers. It will be interesting to see the market for Javon Walker after he was let go by Denver. Expect Houston, NYJ, Cleveland and Washington to be in the mix.
2) Anderson Stays Brown, Gets Rich
A big 3 year deal for Browns QB Derek Anderson gives him and the Cleveland team some security. It will allow for the tough decisions at QB to be delayed for a year or two.
3) Trade Market Moving
Jonathon Vilma is the first big name on the move, traded to New Orleans for a draft pick. Vilma never fit into the 3-4 system and will be a perfect match for the LB needy Saints. DT Kris Jenkins is on the way to New York from Carolina, possibly for the pick acquired in the VIlma trade. Jenkins should be a good fit at DE in the 3-4. Shaun Rogers, the talented Detroit DT apparently was headed for Cincinnati for 3 and 5 round draft picks, but the latest news is the trade may be off for unknown reasons. This would be a great pickup for the Bengals who had been targeting Sedrick Ellis in the draft but his stock rise may see them miss out. Instead it may be the Browns that land him. Corey Williams from Green Bay will be a Brown after a trade was put together.

29 FEB - 2009
Take Dallas OT Flozell Adams off the market, the Cowboys coming to terms to keep the Pro Bowler around. Adams was sure to command bigtime interest, but the Cowboys were successful in retaining him.
2) RB's offer options
Finding a RB in free agency there are no guarantees. Teams usually will try to keep the superstars so either it is later in career or an underperformer or a player who has outgrown their contract. It is the third of these that forms the potential. A guy like Michael Turner of San Diego fits that profile and should be the starting point for those in the market. Teams like Houston, Atlanta and Oakland should certainly be taking a look. Cowboys RB Julius Jones will also command attention as a team looking for a potential upgrade or some competition/2 back committee. Tatum Bell has shown some skills in patches, but not consistently and with injury worries too.
3) No QB's here
Want a QB? Forget Free Agency. When Todd Collins is the main guy, it is a weak crop. A dependable 3 string or backup could be had with the likes of Tim Rattay, Collins, Billy Volek, Gus Frerotte, Cleo Lemon, Josh McCown or Mark Brunell. Maybe someone will give Daunte Culpepper or Byron Leftwich another shot or Chris Simms/JP Losman gets released. Maybe young Jags backup Quinn Gray (who the team hopes it can resign) may get a look in for a chance t start. Who is looking for backup help? Jacksonville, Washington, Seattle and Miami appear likely. Unless Cleveland opens up negotiations for Derek Anderson, it will be the draft where teams must fill QB needs.

28 FEB - 2008
1) Payday for Samuel
Asante Samuel is about to collect bigtime as he hits the FA market. Rumours have the Eagles circling and ready to make a big run at him. Talk has also suggested the Bucs might be keen. Who else might be in the market? Pittsburgh, New Orleans, New York G, New York J and KC are all needing top CB help. Whoever is willing to pay the bucks will get him. Other CB prospects in FA include Drayton Florence and Randall Gay, who both figure to be of value at a better price. Don't forget of course DAngelo Hall's desire to be traded.
2) Safeties Strong
It has taken on two safeties to make for an interesting FA group. Bengal Madieu Williams and Giant Gibril Wilson are looking to enter Free Agency and both will be sought after. I expect Jacksonville, Cleveland, San Diego, Denver and Washington to be among the most active in chasing these players.
3) Slim Pickings at DE
When two of your top DE's are from one team and neither is a star or worth keeping, you have to wonder. Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy from the Titans are among the pass rushers at the head of the class this year. Neither inspire huge excitement. Bengals DE Justin Smith escaped the Franchise tag and will likely be the top prospect, but he is not an All-Pro. With Terrell Suggs and Jared Allen franchised, the crop got alot thinner. Still, there are teams in the market.
27 FEB - 2008
Former First round draft pick Troy WIlliamson is off to the Jaguars after a trade with Minnesota. A sixth round pick is the word on the compensation. The Jags now possess three former first round WR's on the roster, including two top ten picks. The Jags need one of the to be great this year. Williamson has elite speed, something the Jags have lacked, and will be hoping that former Vikings coach Mike Tice - the Jaguars Assistant HC - can get him motivated.
2) System CB's
Cover 2 corners, man corners or all around? That is the big question after the combine. Highly regarded Va Tech CB Flowers - Mike Mayocks favourite - ran poorly (in the 4.6s) and confirmed what I believe, he will be a Cover 2 guy. He is a player, but limited in man roles.
3) $$ Issues
It seems the guaranteed $$ needed to sign first round pick is almost a disincentive to draft highly. Why would any team want to have to pay that to an unproven guy. I am in favour of a set limit for draft spots (as NBA use) to reduce the ridiculous signing bonuses being offered.

Draft Day Trades I'd Love to See
1) I would love to see some Chad Johnson movement. How about Chad Johnson to the Redskins or Jaguars for their first rounder?
2) Lets get D'Angelo Hall moving too. D'Angelo Hall to the Browns for Derek Anderson. There you go - two trade wishes sorted.
3) If Miami doesn't take Jake Long, how about Kansas City trades Jared Allen and their 6th pick overall to St Louis for the second. KC takes Jake Long and St Louis covers another need (DE) and can select another OL or LB or DT with the 6th overall.
4) Jonathon Vilma wants out of NY Jets and Javon Walker wants out of yet another place - Denver. Lets just make it a straight swap and both teams cover a need.
5) Detroit trades Shaun Rogers to Oakland for their second round pick. Tampa could be another destination.
6) How about New England trades secret gametapes of the Jets to every other team just to annoy Eric Mangini?

26 FEB - 2008
There has been some talk around the combine of having Chris Long as a 3-4 OLB. I think he is best suited as a DE in either 34 or 43 scheme. He played end in Al Groh's 34 at Virginia and at 275, super strong and with 4.7 speed, would be a menacing every down DE in a 43. I have him going #1 to Miami who should use him as a 34 end. I think his best fit would be a 43 end, but early picks are with 34 teams. If Oakland have a chance at him, he is straight in to follow his dad.
2) Vilma Moving On
Latest talk is the chance of Jonathon Vilma moving on from the Jets. Vilma did a good job playing inside in the 3-4, but lets get him to a 4-3 to to see him shine inside. Potential suitors could be Kansas City, Buffalo and Washington. The Jets have stated they won't trade him to the Patriots.
3) QB talk
Some discussion about Atlanta and Miami passing on Matt Ryan and using a second round for any of the best of the rest at QB. If Ryan slips, some teams might have trouble ignoring him, I know Baltimore would grab him, Minnesota would consider it, and Carolina surely would be keen to have him to take over for Delhomme. We shall see.

25 FEB - 2008
Some crazy times at the combine in the 40 with the RB class really helping themselves. McFadden probably raised his stock with a 4.33, Mendenhall and Jonathon Stewart both cemented first round picks and Chris Johnson and Kevin Smith probably earnt their second round money. In the WR group DeSean Jackson and Limas Sweed did their cause no harm with blistering times, but Mario Manningham in the 4.5's probably raised some eyebrows, however he stood out a mile in the passing drills, so expect him to still be one of the first WR taken.
2) Vernon Gholston is a beast
People were concerned about his size as a 4-3 end, but after putting up 37 bench press reps (the equal most at the combine) forget about it. Now he is of great value to the 4-3 teams as well as the 3-4 teams keen to switch him to OLB. Can't wait to see what he runs.
3) Number of people working out
Fantastic to see so many of the top players working out after some down years. All have only helped to solidify their status. The QB picture doesn't appear to be any clearer, but Ryan and Brohm look to have cemented a first round pick, with Henne and Flacco set for second. Andre Woodson is a question mark in the second, and may end up in the third. JD Booty could benefit from Woodson's slide with some teams keen for options.

24 FEB - 2008
No sooner had this blog posted that he wasn't there, he arrived. Glen Dorsey showed up for the combine to be measured up and interviewed, although he isn't expected to work out. Unlike Chris Long who will do everything except bench press due to a thumb injury.
2) Early Combine Movers
Big talk about the athletic performance of Dustin Keller of Purdue. The TE posted in the 4.5 range in the 40, caught well and tested well in the other fields to outshine fancied TE's Fred Davis and John Carlson. Davis didn't run but caught the ball well according to most sources, whereas Carlson posted a disappointing 4.88 in the 40 which may cause some concern, although a Pro Day improvement can help. Keller is only 6'2 so his skills may be best served in an H Back role for now, so look for a second or third round team to put him to use.
3) Grossman back in Chi Town
Rex Grossman has been signed to a 1 year extension and I can hear the Bears fans moaning. Does this 1 year deal mean anything as far as the draft goes? Not as far as I can tell, but it will buy them some time perhaps. Still look for a guy like Chad Henne or John David Booty to end up in Chicago in the second round if Brian Brohm doesn't slip to their first round spot.

22 FEB - 2008
The absence of Glen Dorsey is a disappointment for most keen to evaluate him. Whilst he probably wasn't going to do all the drills, for interview and medical evaluation purposes it was an important time. Why isn't he here? Word is his Grandmother has just passed which is unfortunate. The chance to allow his injuries to further heal won't hurt Dorsey, but with his stock already seeming to slide, it may impact on draft day. Question is, how will Sedrick Ellis respond.
2) De'Angelo Wants Out
D'Angelo Hall the talented but outspoken CB/PR from Atlanta is keen to exit the Falcons organisation. Look for a huge number of potential suitors, including plenty who might sacrifice a mid-late first round pick for a young superstar corner, especially those who were going to draft one.
3) Williamson on Trade Block
Former top 10 pick Troy Williamson who has been a big disappointment with the Vikings is also on the trade block, with plenty of interest. Look for the Redskins, Cowboys, Eagles and Jets to make a play for him. What would he command? Maybe a second round or swap in draft order.

Updated Mock Draft pre-combine
1.
Dolphins would consider trading down if they had the right offer, but Long is the perfect pick in Sparano’s 34 defense if they remain.
2.
Time to find a replacement for Orlando Pace. Meet Jake Long.
3.
The Falcons need QB help and Ryan is the top QB. McFadden would be considered, but Ryan is the premier QB and second round won't provide immediate help, whereas it might with RBs.
4.
With his speed and production, Al Davis can't resist.
5.
Needs all over the place for the Chiefs. Offensive line is definitely very high on the list and they were hoping Jake Long would get to them. The Chiefs could probably have any of the second tier tackles 10 picks later, so trading down, especially with McFadden on the board, is a possibility.
6.
The big nose tackle will be a good fit for the Jets.
7.
The rich get richer. Gholston goes from college DE to the perfect 3-4 OLB.
8.
Defensive help could be used, but the QB issue is urgent for the RAvens, for whom Troy Smith isn't the answer. A strong combine should solidify this pick.
9.
The Bengals need some more help on Defense, and DT has been a weak position. Dorsey only slipped this far due to injury concerns.
10.
Defense is where the holes are for the Saints. Cornerback is a primary need and the Saints can get a top CB.
11.
If Rivers is available here, the Bills may opt for a LB, but if not, CB is a presser.
12.
Safety is a strong chance, but the Broncos need more up front and Williams may be the perfect fit for the zone.
13.
Panthers would seriously consider one of the Top 3 QB’s here, but in this mock, they go for a top LB to add to the unit.
14.
Bears still looking for a franchise QB, but with Brohm off the board, there isn't a likely pick. Look for them to go for Henne in the second round. Instead they need a WR beside Berrian and Manningham is a big play guy.
15.
Dre Bly isn't Pro Bowl anymore and the Lions need some speed in the secondary. A handy returner also, Talib is the pick.
16.
Unsure if they will keep Edge around with his cap number, the Cards need a viable alternative. Felix Jones was the ‘other’ back at
17.
If one of the QB’s are available and the Vikings decide Tarvaris Jackson isn’t their solution a QB might be the pick, but apart from that, the Vikes need some receiving help to work with their run game.
18.
A RB here is a perfect fit of best player and need. WR is also a chance.
19.
The Eagles need another WR target and Jackson is a big play guy at WR and returning.
20.
The Bucs are a hard team to predict when drafting. The Bucs would love a stron interior guy with youth to energize the D. Don’t be surprised to see an OL or WR here. How about a roughie here with a QB pick. Probably will consider in second round.
21.
A pass rusher is the likely option, but the Redskins need to replace the departed Sean Taylor, and Kenny Phillips could be a candidate there, but the speedy pass rusher gets the nod after an oustanding combine workout.
22.
Terry Glenn and TO are getting old and have had their injury problems. Sweed stays in
23.
The aging Steelers OLine struggled this past season as evidenced by the Jags domination. Time to bring in some youth.
24.
WR could also be an option here, but a first round pass rusher should add plenty to the Titans who are likely to have high turnover at the position.
25.
TE could be an option here, but Shaun Alexander is aging and here is a chance to draft his replacement, the standout runner from the Pac-10.
28.
D Line depth was a problem last year and Merling has the athleticism to be a standout pass rusher.
27.
Not too many huge needs for the Chargers. More speed and athleticism would help greatly and Phillips will be an eventual upgrade to the secondary.
28.
If one of the top RB's falls to them, look for them to make them the choice. Instead, it is a Safety or CB need, so the Cowboys go CB with the small school star, with a move for Anthony Henry to Safety.
29.
The Niners get a great hands guy in Doucet at WR for whoever is QB.
30.
The pack missed a reliable TE target and with Bubba Franks gone, here is the chance. A WR or RB could also be a chance here, but could be had next round.
*31
32.
LB is a big need and the Giants get the impressive Penn Linebacker who will end up being even better than former teammate Posluszny in Buffalo.
20 FEB - 2008
He gave him the biggest rave I have heard in quite a while. Calling him a top ten pick when nobody else has him in the first round? I think a Cover 2 team late first round could consider him, but at 5'9 and when his best film is of him in run support...well, not a top ten pick.
2) More slippage
All these poor top ranked guys. They haven't played a game or done a thing in a couple of months but the draft gurus are seeing them slip. Take Glen Dorsey. Consensus #1 at some point, then he slides because they get excited by those they saw. Not playing in the senior bowl certainly hurts them in the media circles, especially when you look at how Sedrick Ellis used a standout Senior Bowl to climb the boards. Lets put it perspective though. For me, Dorsey goes #4. Why? Purely because of system fit.
3) Who is the next Mamula?
Will be interesting to see who is the workout wonder of the combine. Donnie Avery, WR from Houston is predicted to run the best time in the 40, but who else emerges to make themselves some money. An interesting article on ESPN.com about Mamula the other day. Made the suggestion that if he wasn't drafted so high that his career would have been deemed solid.

18 FEB - 2008
Mixed reports on this one. Some pundits suggest there is enough concern in some off-field incidents to give doubts. Others refer to his small lower body. Then there are the ones who insist he is the top prospect in the draft regardless of position. Adrian Peterson did a great service to all rookie runners by showing instant contribution. Is McFadden as good as Peterson? Maybe not, but he may well go higher than him.
2) Perilous Perrilloux
Suspended again. What a clown. 4 Heisman's he predicted, well now he only has two years left to start, but it is kind of hard to start when you are suspended from the team. There is a lot to be said for squandering opportunities.
3) Jonathon Stewart = ripped
Watching an ESPN feature on him, man what a beast. I haven't seen a ripped dude like that since Thomas Jones pulled out his cannons. Whoever ends up with Stewart will have one fit guy carrying the ball.

15 FEB - 2008
Is there going to be any big draft movers in the first round this year? How much do people want these prospects? Dallas with 2 first rounders could be in a position to moveup to get a higher pick and some have suggested they will do this possibly to go after Darren McFadden. But why would a team with Marion Barber do this? Yes Jerry Jones is an Arkansas alum but... If they stay and get one of the top backs and top WR that will be much better value. Miami are looking to trade down, the question is, who is likely to move up? Here is one possibility I created. Miami trades down with Kansas City who offer a resigned Jared Allen to the Dolphins for the guarantee of being able to grab Jake Long. Long could still be there at the Chiefs pick, but there is no other prime need there for the Chiefs at that spot. Miami gets a DE and the chance to take one of the best 5 players - possibly Glen Dorsey still at that spot.
2) Pity the Fool
Xavier Lee, the FSU QB is crazy. After two seasons of off and on time at QB, the Seminoles asked him to convert to TE. Lee declined and declared. Now who is going to draft him? Maybe only a 7th round speculatory pick for a guy who will have to convert to probably WR or KR to keep a spot.
3) Combine next week...
Oh how the stocks will rise and fall!
Thursday, February 14, 2008
14 FEB - 2008
When your love is football, you better post a blog entry on Valentines Day!
2) NFL Combine Non-Participants
Expect a pile of players to not workout at the combine. The likes of Matt Ryan, Darren McFadden, Glen Dorsey etc are sure to opt to save their testing for their Pro Days. I would love to be wrong, but the trend tends to be set to not participate. It is always a real shame, but there is probably more to be lost than gained in such an arena for the top guns.
3) Where are the safeties?
Only one safety is likely in the first round, but even Miami Junior Kenny Phillips may escape the first round. There is success being had with lower picks and emerging players, so again the position is much less of a priority. Teams possibly in need - Denver, Washington, Jacksonville, Carolina, Houston, San Diego and Minnesota, but is Safety their first priority?
Monday, February 11, 2008
11 FEB - 2008
They need a trade partner and fast. They need to bring in so much new blood it isn't funny. Already Parcells is cutting guys, including their #1 receiver, a starting OL and DT. So time to add some more. The #1 pick will bring a top player, but they need about 3. WR is desperate, OL and DL, LB are all needy. No easy road ahead.
2) Henne Climbing
Henne is reaching the draft status most predicted before his injury plagued Senior season. In some circles he is the #2 Qb on the board behind Ryan, but I have him #3 behind Brohm as well. Ultimately, whoever gets him in the second will be stoked, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the Carolina Panthers will be eyeing him off. Another climbing QB Joe Flacco, look for him to possibly end up in New England, where they could groom him and develop him.
3) Terrelle Pryor hype all but over
No decision still, but the buzz is dying down. Is easy to build in anticipation of Signing Day, but now...ho hum. Except of course to the programs counting on his signature!

10 JAN - 2008
Snyder pulled one from left field when rather than hire from outside the organisation, decided to promote newly appointed Off Coordinator Jim Zorn to be Head Coach, beating other more fancied candidates Jim Fassel and Ron Meeks. Zorn was the QB coach for 7 years in Seattle and never even served as an OC, but now is at the helm of the Skins. I guess they are in the market for a West Coast Offense friendly coordinator now.
2) Franchise Money makers
Thursday was the kick-off for Franchise tagging, and only the Eagles so far have tabbed LJ Smith. Look for the Pats to use it on Randy Moss, the Seahawks may consider using it for Marcus Trufant, although word is it may go to Kicker Josh Brown. In Dallas the speculation is OT Flozell Adams gets the tag and Oakland CB Asomugha is up for it. Look for KC DE Jared Allen and Baltimore DE Terrell Suggs to wear it as well. That is some hot potential FA's who won't be available now. There will be afew teams hoping for some of those to slip through the cracks. I know Jacksonville is desperately keen to see Suggs or Allen on the market.
3) No word on Favre
His last pass was an INT, but will it be his final pass? Favre is still contemplating, and if it wasn't for that ill-fated INT I would say he would have already retired. He still should, it isn't as though his stellar reputation will be impacted. First ballot HOF. Question is, in 5 years, or 6 !

8 FEB - 2008
Watching film of UVA defensive standout Chris Long has me more and more impressed. His motor is outstanding and with a physique that the NFL covets. Long is worthy of the Top 3 pick he is likely to earn.
2) My perfect plan
I have it all sorted. Kill two birds with one stone, meet two big needs at once. In this scenario, Cincinnati trades disgruntled WR Chad Johnson amd the 9th overall pick to Miami to the Bengals. The Bengals select DT Glen Dorsey to get their DT need under control, and the Dolphins can go a number of ways with the 9th pick, including QB, LB or OL. Now, lets get it done deal makers!
3) Hawaiian Shirts not flattering
Just check out the NFL TA crew. Even an athlete like Marshall Faulk looks dodgy.
Mock Draft Update - 8 FEB
1.
Dolphins would consider trading down if they had the right offer, but Long is the perfect pick in Sparano’s 34 defense if they remain.
2.
Time to find a replacement for Orlando Pace. Meet Jake Long.
t3.
The Falcons need QB help and Ryan is the top QB. McFadden would be considered, but Ryan is the premier QB and second round won't provide immediate help, whereas it might with RBs.
t4.
Sapp is gone, time for some youth and Dorsey is the guy.
t5.
Needs all over the place for the Chiefs. Offensive line is definitely very high on the list. Dorsey still being on the board is a ridiculous shock and a big temptation for the Chiefs and also any other 43 team, so don’t rule out a trade down.
6.
McFadden’s stock is dropping a little, and the Jets have a hard time passing him over.
7.
The rich get richer. Gholston goes from college DE to the perfect 3-4 OLB.
8.
Maybe the Ravens go QB, but it seems that there is some sentiment there is enough talent in the organisation. A young LB would be great to add the spark back to the 'D'.
9.
The Bengals need some more help on Defense, and DT has been a weak position. Ellis should be a big contributor early.
10.
Defense is where the holes are for the Saints. Cornerback is a primary need and the Saints can get a top CB.
11.
If Rivers is available here, the Bills may opt for a LB, but if not, CB is a presser.

Safety is a strong chance, but the Broncos need more up front.
13.
Panthers would seriously consider one of the Top 3 QB’s here, but in this mock, they go for a top CB to add to the unit. Talib gives return value as well. Brohm will be tempting.
14.
Bears still looking for a franchise QB. Brohm is the man for them and should be a great pick. They might even consider moving up so the Panthers don't grab him.
15.
Pass rush was a problem for Jon Kitna, so time to develop some line plans. A CB or DE would also be handy.
18.
A RB here is a chance, but one of the top receivers and returners will help greatly.

A pass rusher is the likely option, but the Redskins need to replace the departed Sean Taylor, and Kenny Phillips could be a candidate there, but the big DE gets the pick.

The aging Steelers OLine struggled this past season as evidenced by the Jags domination. Time to bring in some youth.
24.
WR could also be an option here, but a first round pass rusher should add plenty to the Titans.
*25.
TE could be an option here, but Shaun Alexander is aging and here is a chance to draft his replacement, the standout runner from the Pac-10.
28.
D Line depth was a problem last year and Merling has the athleticism to be a standout pass rusher as he stays instate.
27.
Not too many huge needs for the Chargers. More speed and athleticism would help greatly and Lofton fits the bill as an inside guy in the 3-4.
28.
Julius Jones will be gone and the Cowboys will be hoping to have another back to work in tandem with Marion Barber.
29.
The Niners get lucky as Phillips slips to them in a great pickup for the defense.
30.
The pack missed a reliable TE target and with Bubba Franks aging, here is the chance. A WR or RB could also be a chance here, but could be had next round.
*31
32.
Hard to imagine the dominating defense from the Superbowl could use more, but LB is a position of need for the Giants.
Some late round thoughts:
- Carolina to take Chad Henne in the second
- Chicago will look RB or WR in Round 2.
- Woodson gets a shot in Baltimore.
- Miami surely goes WR with the top of the second.
- My roughie for the day - Joe Flacco to the Pats at the end of the second.
A full second round to come in a week or so.

It's Pro Bowl time as the best in the NFL hang out in Hawaii for a casual game. It is always nice to follow the players as they relax in elite company. Who will win? Who cares. It is fun to watch the NFL's best all play special teams too!
2) Nevada Deception - no not Copperfield
As reported last post, the news of a young Nevada HS player who announced his intention to choose Cal as his scholarship football program had surfaced, with the only problem being no offer or even active recruitment of the player. Latest news is he fabricated the whole story out of disappointment at not getting an offer. Is that like an Academy Award snub making an acceptance speech.
3) Skins miss on Spagnuolo, Just pick Fassel already
I don't know what the hold up is, but after Steve Spagnoulo agree to an extension with the G-Men, surely Fassel is the choice. If only Daniel Snyder would pull the trigger on the deal.

5 FEB - 2008
That is what one ambitious young HS senior has done, choosing Cal over Oregon. Problem is, neither Cal nor Oregon even offered him a scholarship...hmmm. I might just use this opportunity to reveal my choice of Michigan.
2) Belichick Bashed...
The media is onto him again, after his early exit at the Superbowl. His arrogance has long been documented, but it seems this is the worst offense yet for the majorly successful coach. I think it wasn't ideal, but at least he dropped by to see Giants Coach Tom Coughlin on the way out.
3) Redskins making decisions
Steve Spagnuoulo will have the momentum after leading the Giants great defensive efforts, but Jim FAssel remains the top to take over the Skins job. In Redskins related news, former Head Coach frontrunner Gregg Williams will take on a great post as D Coordinator in Jacksonville, where Mike Smith departed to lead the Falcons.

4 FEB - 2008
It's hard enough being a QB in New York, but when you have Manning bloodlines it is even tougher. Eli now will surely have the critics off his back leading his Giants to the huge upset Superbowl win, Manning collecting the Superbowl MVP title along the way. It will be interesting to see how he follows this up.
2) Giants Defense my MVP
The Giants O finally got them there, but it was the Giants D, with a great scheme, and outstanding individual performances from Strahan, Umeniyora and Tuck who were all over Brady all day. What a great performance.
3) Retirements loom
Expect the Superbowl game to spark some retirements from within the two teams. Strahan, Rodney Harrison, Junior Seau, Tedy Bruschi are all earmarked to leave the game and the result, although not how they would have wanted to finish, could prompt the moves.

1 FEB - 2008
Happy 1 month to this blog!
2) The farce of HS recruiting
Nobody can believe anybody. Nothing is binding until that LOI is signed, so all the fuss and hullabaloo only ends in disappointment for all involved. Take the kid who is offered and verbally commits, only to hear that they have used up all their schollies and have nothing for him. Or the big time recruit who holds the recruiting world hostage waiting to make that decision. It is big business, fascinating at that, but it sure is a test of will!
3) Superbowl Prediction
The Patriots will finish as champions, I predict by 17 points. Then the Boston Globe can deliver on the already written title - New England Patriots 19-0
