29 FEB - 2009

1) FA Scratching

Take Dallas OT Flozell Adams off the market, the Cowboys coming to terms to keep the Pro Bowler around. Adams was sure to command bigtime interest, but the Cowboys were successful in retaining him.

2) RB's offer options

Finding a RB in free agency there are no guarantees. Teams usually will try to keep the superstars so either it is later in career or an underperformer or a player who has outgrown their contract. It is the third of these that forms the potential. A guy like Michael Turner of San Diego fits that profile and should be the starting point for those in the market. Teams like Houston, Atlanta and Oakland should certainly be taking a look. Cowboys RB Julius Jones will also command attention as a team looking for a potential upgrade or some competition/2 back committee. Tatum Bell has shown some skills in patches, but not consistently and with injury worries too.

3) No QB's here

Want a QB? Forget Free Agency. When Todd Collins is the main guy, it is a weak crop. A dependable 3 string or backup could be had with the likes of Tim Rattay, Collins, Billy Volek, Gus Frerotte, Cleo Lemon, Josh McCown or Mark Brunell. Maybe someone will give Daunte Culpepper or Byron Leftwich another shot or Chris Simms/JP Losman gets released. Maybe young Jags backup Quinn Gray (who the team hopes it can resign) may get a look in for a chance t start. Who is looking for backup help? Jacksonville, Washington, Seattle and Miami appear likely. Unless Cleveland opens up negotiations for Derek Anderson, it will be the draft where teams must fill QB needs.
