Updated Mock Draft pre-combine

1. Miami Dolphins – Chris Long, DE, Virginia

Dolphins would consider trading down if they had the right offer, but Long is the perfect pick in Sparano’s 34 defense if they remain.

2. St. Louis Rams – Jake Long, OL, Michigan

Time to find a replacement for Orlando Pace. Meet Jake Long.

3. Atlanta Falcons – Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College

The Falcons need QB help and Ryan is the top QB. McFadden would be considered, but Ryan is the premier QB and second round won't provide immediate help, whereas it might with RBs.

4. Oakland Raiders – Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas

With his speed and production, Al Davis can't resist.

5. Kansas City Chiefs – Ryan Clady, OL, Boise

Needs all over the place for the Chiefs. Offensive line is definitely very high on the list and they were hoping Jake Long would get to them. The Chiefs could probably have any of the second tier tackles 10 picks later, so trading down, especially with McFadden on the board, is a possibility.

6. New York Jets – Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC

The big nose tackle will be a good fit for the Jets.

7. New England Patriots – Vernon Gholston, OLB, OSU

The rich get richer. Gholston goes from college DE to the perfect 3-4 OLB.

8. Baltimore Ravens – Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

Defensive help could be used, but the QB issue is urgent for the RAvens, for whom Troy Smith isn't the answer. A strong combine should solidify this pick.

9. Cincinnati Bengals – Glen Dorsey, DT, LSU

The Bengals need some more help on Defense, and DT has been a weak position. Dorsey only slipped this far due to injury concerns.

10. New Orleans Saints – Mike Jenkins, CB, USF

Defense is where the holes are for the Saints. Cornerback is a primary need and the Saints can get a top CB.

11. Buffalo Bills – Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy

If Rivers is available here, the Bills may opt for a LB, but if not, CB is a presser.

12. Denver Broncos – Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

Safety is a strong chance, but the Broncos need more up front and Williams may be the perfect fit for the zone.

13. Carolina Panthers – Keith Rivers, LB, USC

Panthers would seriously consider one of the Top 3 QB’s here, but in this mock, they go for a top LB to add to the unit.

14. Chicago Bears – Mario Manningham, WR, Michigan

Bears still looking for a franchise QB, but with Brohm off the board, there isn't a likely pick. Look for them to go for Henne in the second round. Instead they need a WR beside Berrian and Manningham is a big play guy.

15. Detroit Lions – Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas

Dre Bly isn't Pro Bowl anymore and the Lions need some speed in the secondary. A handy returner also, Talib is the pick.

16. Arizona Cardinals – Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas

Unsure if they will keep Edge around with his cap number, the Cards need a viable alternative. Felix Jones was the ‘other’ back at Arkansas, but he will still be a top pro and in a Whisenhunt system should start as a rookie.

17. Minnesota Vikings – Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma

If one of the QB’s are available and the Vikings decide Tarvaris Jackson isn’t their solution a QB might be the pick, but apart from that, the Vikes need some receiving help to work with their run game.

18. Houston Texans – Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois

A RB here is a perfect fit of best player and need. WR is also a chance.

19. Philadelphia Eagles – DeSean Jackson, WR, Cal

The Eagles need another WR target and Jackson is a big play guy at WR and returning.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina

The Bucs are a hard team to predict when drafting. The Bucs would love a stron interior guy with youth to energize the D. Don’t be surprised to see an OL or WR here. How about a roughie here with a QB pick. Probably will consider in second round.

21. Washington Redskins – Quentin Groves, DE, Auburn

A pass rusher is the likely option, but the Redskins need to replace the departed Sean Taylor, and Kenny Phillips could be a candidate there, but the speedy pass rusher gets the nod after an oustanding combine workout.

22. Dallas Cowboys – Limas Sweed, WR, Texas

Terry Glenn and TO are getting old and have had their injury problems. Sweed stays in Texas as Romo’s new favourite target.

23. Pittsburgh Steelers – Brandon Albert, OL, Virginia

The aging Steelers OLine struggled this past season as evidenced by the Jags domination. Time to bring in some youth.

24. Tennessee Titans – Derrick Harvey, DE, UF

WR could also be an option here, but a first round pass rusher should add plenty to the Titans who are likely to have high turnover at the position.

25. Seattle Seahawks – Jonathon Stewart, RB, Oregon

TE could be an option here, but Shaun Alexander is aging and here is a chance to draft his replacement, the standout runner from the Pac-10.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars – Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson

D Line depth was a problem last year and Merling has the athleticism to be a standout pass rusher.

27. San Diego Chargers – Kenny Phillips, S, Miami

Not too many huge needs for the Chargers. More speed and athleticism would help greatly and Phillips will be an eventual upgrade to the secondary.

28. Dallas Cowboys – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennesse St

If one of the top RB's falls to them, look for them to make them the choice. Instead, it is a Safety or CB need, so the Cowboys go CB with the small school star, with a move for Anthony Henry to Safety.

29. San Francisco 49'ersEarly Doucet, WR, LSU

The Niners get a great hands guy in Doucet at WR for whoever is QB.

30. Green Bay Packers – Fred Davis, TE, USC

The pack missed a reliable TE target and with Bubba Franks gone, here is the chance. A WR or RB could also be a chance here, but could be had next round.

*31 New England Patriots – Pick forfeited due to Spygate

32. New York Giants – Dan Connor, LB, Penn State

LB is a big need and the Giants get the impressive Penn Linebacker who will end up being even better than former teammate Posluszny in Buffalo.
