1) Smokescreen!
I believe that although the pick makes sense, that the Dolphins are not going to draft Jake Long. I suggested this theory in a past post, but truly believe their hard core interest is in Chris Long and that Jake and anyone else is purely for the purpose of attracting a trade. The Dolphins (quite probably rightly) can probably still get Chris Long at Number 5, due mostly to other teams needs and tendencies. Expect them to be stirring the pot to get St Louis, or KC to climb up to get Jake Long, who quite clearly is sought after by many. But, the reality is, Dolphins are looking defense. So any bites on the trade front?
2) Jared Allen to the Vikings?
That is the word, with a First Rounder and Third Rounder the trade compensation. That would be huge for the Chiefs, who although lose the #1 Sackmaster in the NFL in 2007, save some $$ and get more picks. The Vikings i think aren't making the smart move. They have already expended multiple First ROund picks on DE (Kenechi Udeze, Erasmus james etc) and although they haven't been home runs, it seems tough to trade a young pick for an older guy. The Chiefs strategy would change greatly, with them likely to go DE at #5 instead and get an OL at the Vikings spot. At#5 they may have a chance at Gholston or Chris Long, and then can look at either Chris WIlliams or Godser Cherilus later in the first at OT.
3) Retiring #4
Way to capitalise on the sentiment early. Only a couple of months after retiring, the Packers have announced they are retiring the #4 jersey worn by Brett Favre. Seems very quick. I would have thought they could just take it out of circulation for a while. Nobody was going to opt to be the next to wear it. Oh well, a big event for opening game at Lambeau.
