1) Spring Snappy
As an indication of just how big the offseason of football has become, not only will 50000 flood into the Swamp to watch Gators spring scrimmage, but ESPN will televise the event and the fan activities going on in Gainesville. Spring ball has long been a nice wakeup to athletes, coaches and fans alike, but now it continues to grow exponentially as a commodity. Don't be surprised to see next year - Gators Spring Practice, proudly brought to you by IBM. One player who won't be part of the spring festivities is Gators Heisman hopeful Percy Harvin who had surgery on a heel injury this past week.
2) Garrard Gets It
The $$$ that is. One year ago David Garrard was the backup of the Jaguars. Today, he is $60million richer after signing a huge 7 year contract extension after his successful 2007 season, leading the Jags to the playoffs. Expectations will be even higher this year, especially with the acquisition of a couple more playmakers at WR.
3) Kelly on the slide
He blames Oklahoma, but the reality is WR Malcolm Kelly is likely to slip to late first or even into the second round following an ordinary show at his pro day. In his first running for the clock, Kelly ran in the 4.6s, not enough for the big target to command that first WR selection spot. Kelly blamed a slow surface at OU and also the medical staff for not diagnosing his torn quad quicker. The big benefactors here appear to be Mich St Devin Thomas and also James Hardy of Indiana.
