It has clearly been too hectic a football season, so hectic that this blogger has spent to much time watching to blog...damn ESPN Gameplan.
Anyway, here is a two-pronged attack for today (1 NFL and 1 College edition).
1) Fired Coaches
Kiffin and Linehan gone. Rams stink. Al Davis stinks. The Rams coach wasn't helped by his players as they never even flirted with mediocrity this season so far, so he is gone and former Saints HC Jim Haslett is in the batters circle. What is the long term future here? All the usual suspects will rear their head at season end, but how about the return of Brian Billick to the HC ranks...that could be a possibility. As for the Raiders, who wants that gig? Davis has done a great job of scaring off every coach in recent history, so I can't see anyone other than ex-Raiders or desperados wanting that job. Not looking good in Oakland.
2) Surpises
Tennessee having Vince Young hurt was possibly the best thing for that team. He is a distraction and a liability on offense. Let the good runners run and have the QB manage the game. Kerry Collins works for now. I am inclined to give Chris Simms the chance to earn it next year. Buffalo were not a bad team last year and now, with the further development of Trent Edwards and more weapons, Dick Jauron has his team playing hard. On the downside, how about the return of the Bungles. Marvin Lewis is closing in on becoming the next canned coach.
3) Throwbacks
I like a good throwback uni. I don't like what I have seen so far. The NY Titans look the Jets wore...despite the result, pretty titanic. As for the Steelers, weak. San Diego made the powder blue throwback so good that nobody will ever match it. Perhaps the Rams need the return of the yellow from the ED days back to get their mojo going.
