1) Cutler gets his wish
He wanted out and now he has it, all the way to the Windy City. In Chicago he finds himself with a good start-a-fresh opportunity, but a less talented offensive supporting group. In Denver Cutler had Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal. In Chicago he has Devin Hester and Greg Olson. Not exactly the same firepower. He does have the ground game and reliable hands of Matt Forte for support. But what about his protection?
2) Steep Price
Hearing about 2 first-rounders as the asking price, you have to think that is such a huge move. Throw in a QB and a third rounder and you have some serious firepower thrown at the deal. The Bears have finally got a legit QB (no offence to Orton), but did they give up too much? Can they address the rest of their needs? The reality is now that not having to pay a first round pick perhaps frees up some cash for Free agency. Some of this will need to be on Orlando Pace for the line, but a veteran WR such as Torry Holt and a veteran QB – perhaps Leftwich, maybe Garcia – should be on the shopping list to help Cutler out.
3) Who at QB for Denver?
Was Kyle Orton much of a sweetener? Do they believe he is a legitimate shot to battle Chris Simms for a starting job? Orton must have felt good knowing that in Chicago he would finally be the number 1 guy, but now is in a competition. Are either Simms or Orton the guy? Does Denver consider Sanchez at 12 if he is available? Do they like him enough to move up in front of San Francisco? Is Orton a McDaniels system guy? No doubt he is bright and slung it around at Purdue, so perhaps he is. We shall see.
