9 JUN - 2008

1) Strahan Retires

The career of Michael Strahan has come to an end, ending speculation and an amazing career. After some 'will-he, won't-he' dicussion, the talk ended after one of the NFL's best ever sack-masters. Winning the Superbowl last season was the perfect end to an impressive career. The Giants must now move on and defend the crown without one of their locker room leaders.

2) RB Madness

As the Chicago Bears cut disruptive and under-producing RB Cedric Benson, the whole shape of the market has changed. Already loaded with veterans - Shaun Alexander, Travis Henry, Lamont Jordan, Kevin Jones - now add Benson, the #4 overall pick just 3 years ago. Benson's off-the-field issues were too much for the Bears, who sent a strong message. 2nd Round pick Matt Forte now looks like a guy with plenty on his plate, but look for the Bears to tap Alexander, Jones or Jordan very soon to take the veteran spot on the Bears. Where to for Benson? He will get a chance somewhere to play, just where that is, nobody knows. Look for a team like Houston, Buffalo or even the Dolphins to have a look.

3) No Gray Area in Houston

Quinn Gray had plenty of suitors as a FA after playing well as a backup in Jacksonville last year, eventually choosing Houston as his preferred site. Now, Gray is on the market again, the Texans not believing he was a good fit for their system. Look for Gray to head to Green Bay for a chance to serve as a veteran alongside Aaron Rodgers and Brian Brohm. Don't discount Seattle as another team who could benefit from some depth at the position.

1 JUN - 2008

1) Will he or won't he?

That seems to be the discussion surrounding quite a few players. Jason Taylor, Chad Johnson, Brian Urlacher etc. Will they show up for camp or mandatory minicamps? Urlacher answered his with a yes to mandatory, but no comment on the rest. Taylor isn't tipping his hat, but some have said he is demanding a trade. Either way, things need to progress for these guys for their team's sake.

2) Run DMC next??

After Matt Ryan got his business done, Raiders RB Darren McFadden is the next player expected to sign his deal. It is sure to be lucrative and unimaginable, but at least it will get him into camp. With negotiations improving, the Raiders cut Lamont Jordan.

3) Where to for RB?

With Lamont Jordan and Shaun Alexander still on the market, expect a team that suffers an injury in camp to be their likely destination. There are still some teams that have RB question marks (Detroit, Buffalo, Green Bay etc) but none have shown too much interest. Kevin Jones is still on the market too.
