1 Oct - 2008 (NCAA Edition)

1) Who for Heisman?
The candidates are dropping out more than they are raising their hands. The losses by their teams don't help. Beanie Wells was a front-runner but his injury limited him. Maybe if he is back and dominates over the rest of the year his importance and chances increase, goodness knows the Buckeyes couldn't beat USC without him. Knowshon Moreno was looking the goods until GA couldn't get him in the game because they were being spanked so hard by the Tide. Chase Daniel continues to put up the big numbers and will be a finalist, but it will all depend on how Missouri continues. WVUs battles have hurt Pat White and his quest no doubt. Tebow is having a down year statistically, and again, the loss to Ole Miss can't help. I see Sam Bradford as a real contender now and if the Sooners remain high up, he should be a great shot, along with fellow QB Colt McCoy of Texas.

2) Coaching Chaos
Ok, so no firings, but plenty on the hot seat, and some who have just started. Rich Rodriguez has begun his reclamation project in Ann Arbor, but for the Michigan faithful, it is hard going. The late flurry to knock off Wisconsin was a godsend for RR, but the first half offensive showing was just god-awful. Phil Fulmer will exit stage left at the end of the season, his underachieving team being booed already. Cue Lane Kiffin, the next coach of the Vols. Ty Willingham is having a tough year at UDub, and now with Jake Locker out for a while, his job keeps harder to retain. Now the question is - does Jim Mora Jr stay as heir apparent to Mike Holmgren in Seattle, or does he return to his alma mater for his 'Dream Job'.

3) Fab Freshman
Never before has there been such a strong lineup of contributing freshmen. Here is a few: Julio Jones in Alabama, Sam McGuffie in Michigan, AJ Green in Georgia, Rodney Stewart at Colorado, Terrelle Prior in Ohio State (damn, why didn't be go to Mich), Jacquizz Rodgers in Oregon State just to name a few.
